Thanks for Your Support in Re-Electing me as Toronto Director of the CLA

Thank you to my lawyer colleagues who so kindly supported my re-election as a Toronto Director of the Criminal Lawyers’ Association (CLA.) I was indeed re-elected yesterday, which I am glad about if only because I hope to reprise my role as Chair of the Mental Disorder Portfolio. Governing 1400 independent minded criminal defence lawyers is difficult work. We will be doing so over the next two years under the leadership of returning President Anthony Moustacalis – congratulations Anthony. Congrats as well to the incomparable Breese Davies who will make an outstanding Vice-President, and to Keli Mersereau and Jessyca Greenwood for their election to positions of Women’s VP and Director, respectively. I am sure this Board will make great strides toward accomplishing many of the goals it sets for itself. At the same time, I am saddened to see that my good friends and colleagues Adam Boni and in particular Jordan Weisz who worked so tirelessly for the CLA last term, were not successful in being elected as Vice-President. I hope to be able to work with them regardless on the critical issue of Legal Aid. Finally I want to congratulate Sean Robichaud on running for President this term and in the process, raising important issues for respectful discussion and debate, from which the Association will most certainly benefit in the coming term. I have no doubt Sean will accomplish great things in his career and look forward to watching his star rise and shine.
